Homebrew Roundup 2016

The Cowtown Yeast WRanglers are proud to present the 8th annual Homebrew Roundup!

We welcome entries of beer, mead and cider from home brewers across Canada. This year we’ll be judging entries based on the new 2015 BJCP style guidelines, which include some funky new styles. Last year we had nearly 500 entries from coast to coast! This is the first competition in the Brewer of the Year circuit 2016, so if you want to see how you stack up against the best home brewers in Canada, or if you’re just after constructive criticism on one of your beers, be sure to visit the 2016 competition page to read the rules, and register.

We’re accepting registration & entries until February 17th 2016. <div>
</div><div>Just remember this year the drop off / shipping location is at the Vineyard only. If you’re eligible to judge (BJCP accredited judges and professional brewers) or want to help out as a steward during the judging, please register via the competition page. This year the judging sessions will take place at the Wild Rose Production facility, no longer in the backroom of the WR tap house. Judging dates and times are posted on the competition page.<div><p>The event will culminate with the spectacular awards banquet which is being held at National on 8th Saturday February 27th 18:00.</p><p>Please contact with any questions. </p></div></div>

Yeast WRanglers 3 peat for Club of the Year

Our competition club brewers have done it again!!! For the third straight year Cowtown Yeast Wranglers have managed to eak out a win as Canada's top Homebrew Club. It was a  marathon year with maybe even too many competitions but our brewers held up strong and several of them entered each and every of the 15 competitions on the slate. The loss of package of beer on the way to one of the competitions made it look like we might not garner top spot and it was only the final event of the year that we were able to grab the top spot on the podium. Congratulations go out to all the fine brewers across this country that participated and to Jared Carlberg for winning Brewer of the year.

2016 memberships are now available

We are now accepting members for 2016. Our process is fully automated and payment is only accepted via PayPal. If you don't have a PayPay account you can still use your credit and debit cards.

Over the past couple of years we have been testing hosting meetings in other venues and 2016 will see and increase in our meeting being hosted at places other than The Barracks Room at Wild Rose Brewery. With a new program director in place we will see a bigger focus on brewing and brewing styles during the education portion of our meetings with more technical presentations than ever before. As always, where the law will allow, we will continue to sample commercial examples that relate to the style or topic of discussion and have a few appropriate nibbles along side by our consummate Club Chef Clare.

While the Yeast Wranglers club had become primarily focused on production of Beer there are a couple of other local clubs if your focus is mostly about drinking and enjoying the final Product. CAMRA has a chapter in Calgary and host several events each year which are more focused on the social aspect of Craft and Real Ale. Our Good Friends at Last Best Brewing also have a monthly Social Club that runs the first Wed of each month where again the focus is on enjoying the final product. Click the names above to be transported to our friends.
