Brewer of the Year!
Welcome To Our Website

The Cowtown Yeast Wranglers are a Calgary-based club of homebrewers and beer enthusiasts. The club was founded in 2007 and has now grown to over 170 active members, making it the largest beer and homebrew club in Canada. Club meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at 8:00 pm at various breweries and craft beer locations around town (except in the summer months). Meeting activities vary, but typically they begin with a discussion of club business, followed by technical brewing presentations and discussion, followed by beer evaluation. Meeting locations are announced in our monthly newsletter and on our Facebook page.

Currently, our club members include home brewers, pro brewers, certified beer judges,  and beer aficionados of all levels. Our members also include beginning brewers and those interested in beer and the brewing process. Come join our online discussion Forum and meet the gang. We welcome all levels of beer and brewing expertise, and the only prerequisite is that you have an interest and enthusiasm for our favourite beverage -- beer! Cheers!

June 1st Meeting - posted: Wednesday, May 25, 2016

The June 1st Meeting will be held at 330 Canterbury Dr. SW - Canyon Glen Rec Hall. If you judged or stewarded in this year's Roundup you should know this location well.

The speakers will be from a new craft maltster in Alberta, Red Shed Malting.

Parking is limited within the complex. Please don't park in any stalls that aren't marked visitor, you will likely be towed. The quickest place to park is in the Rexall strip mall parking lot across Elbow Dr from the complex. Street parking is also unregulated in the area so if you can find it, you can park in it.

2016 memberships are now available - posted: Friday, December 4, 2015

We are now accepting members for 2016. Our process is fully automated and payment is only accepted via PayPal. If you don't have a PayPay account you can still use your credit and debit cards.

Over the past couple of years we have been testing hosting meetings in other venues and 2016 will see and increase in our meeting being hosted at places other than The Barracks Room at Wild Rose Brewery. With a new program director in place we will see a bigger focus on brewing and brewing styles during the education portion of our meetings with more technical presentations than ever before. As always, where the law will allow, we will continue to sample commercial examples that relate to the style or topic of discussion and have a few appropriate nibbles along side by our consummate Club Chef Clare.

While the Yeast Wranglers club had become primarily focused on production of Beer there are a couple of other local clubs if your focus is mostly about drinking and enjoying the final Product. CAMRA has a chapter in Calgary and host several events each year which are more focused on the social aspect of Craft and Real Ale. Our Good Friends at Last Best Brewing also have a monthly Social Club that runs the first Wed of each month where again the focus is on enjoying the final product. Click the names above to be transported to our friends.

Yeast WRanglers 3 peat for Club of the Year - posted: Friday, December 4, 2015

Our competition club brewers have done it again!!! For the third straight year Cowtown Yeast Wranglers have managed to eak out a win as Canada's top Homebrew Club. It was a  marathon year with maybe even too many competitions but our brewers held up strong and several of them entered each and every of the 15 competitions on the slate. The loss of package of beer on the way to one of the competitions made it look like we might not garner top spot and it was only the final event of the year that we were able to grab the top spot on the podium. Congratulations go out to all the fine brewers across this country that participated and to Jared Carlberg for winning Brewer of the year.
