Yes viability will be down and a yeast starter is always a good thing when ever you are pitching into a 1050 or higher wort. Swelling of the package is quite common as the yeast are...

This Thursday at The District we're having a cask of our winter seasonal "Prairie Steamer", a malty 6 % abv Scottish-style ale. I spiked the cask with Saaz hops and the spicey Saaz go nicely with the caramel sweetness of this beer . Hope to see you there. Cheers, Al Brew Brothers Brewery

The Vineyard has weldless fitting kits for both coolers and kettles in stock now as well. They are a regular item.

Hello, We're having a cask of pale ale at The District this Thursday Oct 20 at 4 pm. This one's going to be quite English, refermented with a Whitbread Ale yeast and dry hopped with a pile of UK Fuggles. Tastes soft and earthy, good session beer (uh-oh!) ..... Cheers, Al
