When the mercury dips and cars start reluctantly, people naturally think of beach destinations to get away.  What beers do you recommend for beach vacations?

 Criteria:

-         Mexico, Caribbean, Central and South American made beers (please say where you found it).

-         Please note if you drank it here (Canada) or there.

-         Style if known.

 Here are my picks:

Dos Equis – Amber: One of the better beers from Mexico – a Vienna style amber lager, according to Wiki.  Mostly drank in Canada (not sure why when there are much better offerings here)

Belikin from Belize – they have a light lager, premium lager and a stout (yes! Really!) All excellent and a great reason to go to Belize, where I had them.

What do you nurse your sunburns with?

Cheers,

Corey

Well, I'm back!  I thought I would follow up with what I settled on personally:

First off - you know that fresh lime that comes with every beer in Mexico?  I found a use for it!  Rub it on your sunburn.  I don't know why but it heals quicker.  (scientifically verified by applying to only one arm)

Here is a summary of what I drank.  Criteria were availability, price, all-day drinkability and of course taste.

Overall, I drank Pacifico the most.  It's a basic beer that is available every where, and at least has a little taste to it.

Negro Modello is better but usually was a premium price as well.

Close to the end of the trip I switched to Victoria as a replacement for Pacifico.  It's a little better and common down there, but I wasn't that familiar with it, so it took a while to settle on it.

Finally, while rummaging through the bottom of a cooler in a Pharmacy I found a bottle of Noche Buena.  It is actually pretty good, but seasonal (christmas only) so a rare find at easter.  My wife found one other bottle of it, which I brought back.

Cheers,

Corey

Was thinking about it and the last time I was at a beach, nowadays I think a nice Wit would fit the bill if you can find it or bring it with you, but when I was at the Black Sea we drank a lot of the local lagers (which was the predominant local style) but always had trouble keeping them cold (they didn't have buckets of ice). I buried my bottles in the wet sand to try and keep the beer cold,

Good info on Mexico, I will remember it for my next trip south of the american border!

I'm a fan of Red Stripe. Last time I was in Jamaica, a bottle of Red Stripe cost about $1 CDN.

Very sweet beer for the beach.

Ah yes, I remember well the comfort I felt back in the 80's when I discovered the good 'ol stubbies were alive and well in Jamaica.

Red Stripe is also known for having been identified as "the best beer I ever had" by none less than beer writer Michael Jackson.

True story.
