Having 100+ beers on tap is exciting to have in Calgary, something us beer connoisseurs can appreciate.

I went to the VIP opening and last weekend.

The good: The facility is awesome, tones of space, crazy high ceilings (great for ventilation), nice talent. Some good beers to choose from.

The bad: I was hoping for more of a US beer selection. The service is shotty but not untypical of starting establishments. The food is over priced and the portions should be larger. The worst part of all is they trick you a little by using beer glasses (Craft lables on them) that are not full pints. Not giving you a full pint and charging you for a typical full pint price or more most of the time is not very fair, not to mention if they dont fill it up to the 400ml level your shorted even more.(most beers were 400ml). That means you end up spending a lot more money than the typical venue and it adds up quickly. I dont mind paying higher price for a specialty beer but please dont short me on the volume as well..

Overall, I would go once and a while, but getting drunk there for even a couple gets pricey! If they were to adjust their pricing or volumes I would support the establishment more.

I may be wrong here but I thought I noticed that on the beer menu they did mention the size of beer based on the brand ordered. These were in European measure of cl rather than oz or pint (which is different in many countries). The measure was to style and glass rather than fizzy lager standard measure.

I was in with a friend on Monday night. At 9 it was very busy (good sign) I was impressed with the room and the back glass wall with the kegs on display. I asked about the lines, how they came in, how do they keep carbonation and freshness in the beer line as it seems a hell of a long way from the taps! The server, could answer most of the questions and new lots about the many beers. I hope it sticks around.

Yes, it is pricey.

Here is my perspective:

- Within a block of where I work - WIN

- 3 times as many beers on tap that I want to drink as any other place down town - WIN

- decent menu - WIN

I plan to support it as much as possible. If it succeeds, other craft beer locations are likely to pop up also or maybe even some of those light lager taps getting retasked to tastier brews in existing restuarants. I suspect it will take most of the summer to fine tune the staff to the level that us beer geeks expect when ordering beer though. And fine tune their supply chain so that they run out less often. Considering how ambitious the endeavour is I think they have had a pretty good start.

I like the place, but my main gripe is that for a place that labels themselves as a craft beer market, they had a surprisingly large numbers of beers on tap that are not craft beer. But I guess this could depend on your definition of craft beer. I go by the Brewers Association definition of craft beer.

My secondary gripe is that Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale is listed under India Pale Ales. 'Nuff said.

Otherwise, good food, more craft beers on tap than pretty much any other pub in Alberta. One of my favorite pubs was Henry's Tavern in Portland. They had a few AB-InBEV beers, but by far, a majority of beers they carried were around the Washington/Oregon/California regions, with a selection of imports.
