Hi Everyone,

As a beginner brewer using coopers cans or brewhouse kits, is it possible to add hops to these kits?? If so how do you recommend doing it, and what type (if there are more than one type) of hops do you recommend? Thanks a ton!
Cheers!
Jamie

If I had to hazard a guess on the brewhouse side of things, you would have to add the additional hops by "dry hopping", or adding aromatic hops to cooled wort in the primary, essentially what the kit is.....I can't answer for the coopers kit though, never done one

Excellent, thanks for the quick reply!

Ive googled dry hopping, it looks as simple as adding the hops to primary, and even adding a little to the secondary. Some of the dry hops Ive found are called Cascade, Tettnang or Willamette. Do you have experience with these hops? Do you recommend them, how different can the taste be? Thanks again Alex for your expertise!!

You might find some good info here: http://www.howtobrew.com/, its a book most of it is available for free on the website.

In addition to dry hopping, and you wanted to add additional bitterness or hop flavor, I think you could boil a portion of your wort from the kits and add some hops into the boil. Depending on how long you boil and how long the hops are in the boil you will get different flavors. Then you could add that back into the rest of the wort.

If you are interested in tweaking kits, then you may want to research partial mashes.

That website looks very helpful. A lot of information right at the tips of my fingers. I couldnt help myself after getting this feedback and went and bought some hops at lunch, time to start brewing me some hoppy beer!! Thanks again everyone!! If I have more questions after reading that website, I will reply to this thread, particularily "partial mashes", not sure what that is but it sounds fun!
