Hey gang. Completely new to home brewing (haven't even started my first batch) but I've decided to jump in and am starting by making my own kegerator. I've been looking at the conversion kits on micromatic.com but it would be nice to be able to have a look at these in person. Where (if any) are the best places in Calgary to buy these?

Also, there are some optional things (like keg couplers for Euro beer, cleaning kits, etc) that are optional. Are these things easy to find in Calgary?
Lastly, I've found plenty of directions on building a kegerator (even some specific to my model of fridge) but any tips suggestions from anyone who's built one themselves would be great

Hey Jason,

There are some things you want to consider before you start -like what kind of kegs you are going to use, tower vs. surface mounted taps, and so on. But overall its pretty simple to set one up. Not aware of any place in Calgary that sells kits as such, but the Vineyard has some keg accessories for home brewers. There are obviously plenty of bar-supliers in town (and there's always internet). Have a chat with people (me) at the meeting tonight.

Thanks Hans. I'm looking at doing a tower setup (basically this exact configuration here)

I stumbled across a forum this morning and there's a place in Calgary (BBS Systems) that is a supplier of Micro Matic (that seemed to be a reputable supplier of conversion kits) so if anyone is looking for these kits, you might be able to save on shipping/duty costs. I have to call and get a specific quote on all their stuff but a local option at least...

I usually have basketball on Wed nights but maybe I'll be able to make it out to next month's meeting. I'm sure I'll be back for plenty more questions.

Thanks again, J

Jason, I would think I would at least brew a few batches to see if it was for me before going all out and making a kegerator, unless you'll use it for commercial beer if you give up homebrewing.

Having said that, having a kegerator is priceless. Makes life so much easier regarding the dispensing of homebrew.

Yeah I was thinking, worst case, if the home brew doesn't work out I'd still use it for commercial kegs. It's the central feature of my man cave haha

Don't know if you have already built your kegerator yet. I recently built a kegerator over reading week with parts from BBS. They were friendly, helpful, and most importantly local.

Thanks Matt. I actually built it a couple of weekends ago (through BBS as well). I bought some Big Rock to tide me over until my first batch of homebrew is ready and kegged.

Here's a (crappy iPhone at night) pic

That looks fantastic. Keep us posted on how your first batch turns out. I'm afraid to make the move to kegging. I'll either not drink fast enough to make it worthwhile, or I'll be drinking constantly.
