Hey gang,

Bottling is this weekend. An extra strong English Bitter (we added an extra Kg of dextrose and

maltodextrin to the 500g of dry malt extract). Decided to just clean our empties and use them. The plan is to soak the labels off in a tub and then a secondary soaking with the sterilizing solution.

Anyone use a different method that seems to work?

I have tried a few ways, and the method that worked the best for me was to soak the bottles in a hot water with automatic dishwasher soap, the powdered kind. Most labels almost float off in that solution. Have to rinse well as the detergent leaves a film.

I have also used oxyclean with success, but ended up scraping some of the tougher labels.

Have been using the flip-top bottles for bottling homebrew, which is working fine. But man! Wild Rose must use JB Industro-Weld to put their labels on. A good long soak in a hot PBW solution will take the labels off, but the glue remains. (And since I have pets, that means - eventually - fuzzy bottles!)

I use a bleach soak followed by a good rinse with hot water and finally a star-san spray to sanitize.

if you end up with residule glue after the soak and clean I have found that goop off works real well. Smells awful and gives you a headache but works very well. It is some sort of solvent maybe acetone base.
