Hi guys,

I'm buying a few things from the Didsbury warehouse of Canada Malting.

Especially now that I am doing 10 gal batches, I need to start buying more things in bulk. I've been getting my base malt bulk for a while, and there are a few other things that are significantly cheaper in bulk, but which I don't need 55lbs to myself... Anyone want to split? I guess I'm tired of getting poked in the eye ($3/lb... 300% mark up) for grains that I use a lot of...

Anyway, here are a few things I'd like to get:

Rice hulls (50lbs) $30 (60c/lb instead of $4/lb at LHBS. Could be split a lot)
Flaked Corn (50lb) $36 (split a bag in 2-4?)
Cara Amber (55lb) $55 (split a bag into 4 or so?)
Vienna (55lb) $40 or so depending on brand... (would split in half...)
Special aromatic (55lb) $40 (never used it?)

That's mostly what I wanted, in addition to some base 2row. If you had a particular interest in something else, I could also be convinced to split: maris otter, pilsner, light crystal, munich, maybe rye malt...

I don't want to bother splitting this out 10 ways, but let me know if you want a half or quarter bag of any of these? I'm happy to pick it up at Didsburry, and could then drop it off sometime in Calgary. Let me know.

Got it and responded.

Pilsener is on the list then... domestic is $23/bag, imported is $40... if duncan takes half, anyone want to split the other half?

The other 5 I think I'll buy tomorrow. Drop me a note if you want to split in on them.

This sounds silly... I'm a bit embarrassed at myself... I've gotten a few PMs (notified by email) and can't figure out how to reply to them. I'm sure there is an obvious button somewhere that I can't find. Please either tell me where it is, or post to this thread.

:o

At the top of the page there should be a little icon that looks like an old-fashioned mailbox. Click on that to access your private messages (yes, it is easy to miss).

Also note that there appears to be a bug in the software and occassionally some users don't have access to personal messages. If that happens to you, please let me know. Hopefully, the bugfix will come out shortly and it can be fixed.

Back to topic... I picked up these grains and am happy to share. I also added a sack of Baird's chocolate malt, which I REALLY don't need a whole sack of.

I'll happily pick up some Special Aromatic from you. Will you be at the next Wranglers meeting in April?

Opening this subject up a little wider, I'm wondering if there's any interest in a Wranglers group purchase. I'm planning to buy a couple of sacks of malt, and if there's anyone else who's contemplating it, we could pool our resources and amortize the shipping costs (one sack from Didsbury is about $20, while a whole pallet is only ~$40). Canada Malting is part of the Country Malt Group, so they have access to all sorts of domestic and imported malt - check out the list on their website: http://www.countrymaltgroup.com/malt

I'm heading up to Didsbury this week and will have some space in the truck. If anyone wants to buy grain or other supplies, I'd be happy to pick it up and bring it back for you at cost. Maybe throw a couple bucks on the bill for gas.

Full sacks only, please.

I'm open to open purchasing. I have a bunch of stuff I'm ordering from CMC now, but a few things I think I could go splits on would be things like specialty malts, rice hulls, amber malts, simcoe hops and warrior hops. I think they will only sell hops in 17 lbs packs minimum but I would be especially happy to go splits on the hops.

PM me and we can keep in touch. I plan on brewing 5G batches frequently. I don't need to split base malts, but would be happy to share other stuff.
