I recently dropped in to attend one of your meetings (gear night) . Don't want to rain on your parade but must say that I was fairly disheartened to find out that the only beer I would be drinking was about 2 swallows of the Oatmeal Stout that was split between way too many people.

You definately need to change the wording on your home page which states.

" Homebrewers are encouraged to bring in their own beers to share with other members and receive feedback from some of our club experts."

My friend and I had brought along 4 litres of English Bitter that had matured over the last 4 months into a very nicely flavored beer. We were looking forward to sampling some different beers and sadly ended up leaving to drink our own.

That being said there was an interesting cross section of items on display and it was nice to be able to see handle and exchange ideas on the various equipment present.

I agree, thought there is resoning why this has changed. My thoughts are we should have monthly competions.

Get the competion license each month. Prior to the meeting people submit the competition samples. Ballots are provided to the drinkers. People vote. End of the year the top 3 persons with the most votes get small prizes.

Ritchie -- I am sorry for your disappointment, and I can see how that old description from the club website was certainly misleading. It has been removed from the website. Unfortunately, it is now very difficult for us to sample homebrew at club meetings because of legal liability issues that originate with Alberta's strict liquor control laws. Please recognize that we are a club run entirely by volunteers solely for the benefit of our members. We have no advertising and we aren't trying to make any money off of this (quite the opposite actually).

We are working to find a solution to this issue, but has become very difficult to accommodate. Your concern that we encourage bringing homebrew on our website but don't allow it at meetings is valid, and I apologize. That has been fixed. But to Ritchie and anyone else who was upset by this change to our meeting format, if you are passionate that something different should happen, then please step forward and volunteer your time and energy with the club to help build a solution to the problem. It isn't really helpful to the club to have people complaining from the sidelines unless they are also willing to be part of the solution.

Ritchie, if this was your first meeting or you paid a drop-in fee, we would be more than happy to refund your money. We apologize that you were mislead and really don't want unhappy members. Please contact us through our contact form (click here).
