Now that we have a schedule for what we will be tasting, how about a feature recipe based upon that style, tailored for locally available ingredients?  Just a thought...

Cheers,
Corey

That's a great suggestion, Corey.  I will take it a step further even!  Starting in the next newsletter, we will begin publishing the upcoming tasting themes/styles so that anyone interested can brew up some homebrew to bring to the meeting.  The idea is that at each meeting, we might get a selection of homebrew to match the style of the commercial tasting.

This would accomplish a few things:  First, the commercial beers provide a reference or 'calibration' for tasting homebrews. That way, if you bring your own brew in to the meeting, you can try it along side some commercial examples to compare.  You will also get some valuable feedback from club members and experienced judges in the club.  Second, having some homebrews to taste along side the commercial beers will help promote more homebrewing in the club (especially since I guarantee that some of the home brewed examples of the style will compete well or exceed the quality of some of the commercial beers!).  Third, we will have more beer to sample at each meeting and/or we can begin to reduce our reliance on commercial brews for tastings (which is our club's biggest expense right now).

Anyways, if we could encourage people to bring some homebrew to the meetings, particularly if it were to style, then we could easily publish recipes in the newsletter and on the website after the tasting.  This would help homebrewers in the club to learn about differences in recipe formulation and improve their own beer.  Thanks for stimulating the idea!

Well, my second brew, which I just did on Saturday, was an ESB which chould be ready for Sept.  I might get a Winter Warmer made this year too...

Cheers,

Corey

Nice idea, Corey!

I've got a dubbel bottle conditioning right now that may be nice and mellowed out by the fall too, for that tasting. I would definitely enjoy trying homebrewed examples of the monthly style as well!

Tom
