As the title suggests, I am a newbie to the all-grain, so I figured I'd just simply name my recipe (with some help from Neil B) Newbie's Brown Ale. I believe the style would fall under 8C: English Special/Strong Bitter category. The recipe basics are as follows:

Batch Size: 5 gallons
OG: 1.055

9lbs Maris Otter
0.5lbs Brown malt
0.5lbs Special B malt

1oz East Kent Goldings (60min)
1oz East Kent Goldings (30min)
1oz East Kent Goldings (15min)
1oz East Kent Goldings (5min)

Wyeast 1318 London Ale III

It is a fairly simple recipe and the wort tastes great. I'm not sure how it will taste out of fermentation, but hopefully good. Figured I'd share this one.

Hey Chris, just curious how this turned out for you? I just made my first extract Brown Ale and used 4lbs less DME than I needed! My estimated ABV is 1.7% haha...maybe the girlfriend will like it???

Cheers

It was ok. I think I got some off flavors from fermentation temp, but I may try this recipe again soon with different yeast. What I did with this was use Franco Belges CaraMunich 120 as a Special B malt. I now have Dingemans special B so I will use that. I may also swap the brown malt with Thomas Fawcett amber malt. I'll still use the Marris Otter, but I'll want to try another with either Canadian 2-Row or Superior Pale Ale. I love Superior Pale Ale, and its cheap. I may use the Wyeast 1968 London ESB next time as well and work with UK Fuggles hops because I have lots of them left. My mouth is starting to water just thinking of it. I think I'll have to do that in a couple weeks.
