Vice-president: Darren Bender

Darren is a wildlife biologist by profession and an amateur micro-biologist (i.e. yeast wrangler) by passion. He is a BJCP certified judge and self-proclaimed beer geek.  When not brewing, you can often find him on one of many online homebrewing forums or at work on the club website as our very own club Webmaster.

Program Director: Corey Clayton

In early 2008 Corey embarked on a crash course education program and started brewing all grain at the end of April. By the end of October he had made 13 brews with many favourable results! A computer programmer by profession, Corey's thirst for information about beer will likely never be quenched!  A certified beer judge and CowTown Yeast WRangler of the Year 2009 and 2010!

Epicureal Director: Clare Stanfield

Clare is an agricultural writer who has spent a lot of quality time where all good beer starts: malt barley fields across the Prairies. An avid cook, Clare sees beer as a great ingredient as much as a delicious beverage. Of course to her, “cooking with beer” can just as easily mean cooking with one in your hand as it does cooking with one in the pot.

Treasurer: Neil Bamford

A Kit beer maker for many years Neil joined the club in mid 2008 to hang out with beer geeks and learn a bit more about beer styles. After stewarding in the 2009 Round Up Neil was amazed at the quality of homebrew being produced in Western Canada. In the fall of 2009 when Canada Malting offered up free ingredients to stage an all grain competition the decision was made to take advantage of the freebie and give all grain brewing a shot.

To say he was hooked would be an understatement. Since that fateful batch in October of 2009 Neil has made 24 batches and gone on to compete in several western Canadian competitions garnering several medals, qualifying for MCAB XIII, winning his first best of show in the Edmonton Competition and making it into the top ten of Canadian Homebrewers of the Year in 2010

Competition Director: Jeremy Cowan

Jeremy is a high-school English teacher who, on a suggestion from his wife, began looking into the possibility of brewing beer in early 2009. By May, that potential hobby had evolved into a full-blown obsession, as he and two friends dove into all-grain brewing. Becoming an official BJCP judge in November of that year sealed the deal, and there is no turning back now. His spare time is fully dominated by recipe formulation, building brewing gadgets, bowing to paranoia by staring endlessly at fermentation vessels, and doing his best not to completely annoy his ‘non-beer geek’ friends! There’s also some beer sampling in there somewhere, I’m sure...
